Beatitude Press is a small Bay Area book publisher with a rich tradition of publishing original poetry. Founded in 1975 by famous San Francisco poet Bob Kauffman, Beatitude has always been supportive of all forms of contemporary poetry, including experimental poetry, “beat poetry,” “jazz poetry,” surrealistic poetry, and more traditional forms. In many ways, “Beat Press” combines the best features of self publishing and commercial publishing, with an emphasis on providing service with a personal touch.
The authors we have published include Jack Hirschman (the current San Francisco poet laureate), Neeli Cherkovski, Marsha Campbell, H. D. Moe, Margaret Irvin, and Sterling Bunnell–plus many others. Each writer has had a unique voice; and, by publishing them, Beatitude Press has contributed to the diversity of American literature.
Recently, we have taken the important step of going online. We are expanding our reach beyond the Bay Area, and are currently seeking authors of fiction (including science fiction), non-fiction, children's books, memoirs, and academic works, as well as poetry, to publish. If you are a writer interested in publishing your work for the first time, you are probably looking for a publisher that will care as much about your work as you do. Writing is a serious art, and so is publishing. Come to Beatitude Press, where helping authors is our passion.
We invite you to submit your manuscript for our prompt consideration. We accept submissions either by mail or electronically. Acceptable electronic formats include MS Word, WordPerfect, WordPro (including AmiPro), and AppleWorks (including ClarisWorks). It is also possible, though not preferable, for us to handle submissions in pdf and .txt formats. Our mailing address is:
